The Bonding Process

Refinishing involves the application of a thin, yet incredibly durable coating to an existing surface. Bathtubs, sinks, ceramic tile, and even kitchen counter tops can be beautifully restored at savings up to 70% over replacement costs. A critical element in the refinishing process has always been getting the new coating to adhere to the old surface, especially on porcelain and ceramic tile. We strongly believe that the use of a chemical bonding process results in superior adhesion and a better product with more longevity.

Glazed surfaces are etched, sanded, and properly prepped for a bonding primer to bite into the substructure of the glass and is topcoated with a glass-fused resin.

Preparation of the Work Area

New Surface takes great care to insure that any surrounding areas are protected and that paint-type odors from the refinishing process are properly exhausted.

Preparation of the Surface

New Surface uses a two-step cleaning process to adequately prepare the surface for refinishing. These are industrial strength cleaners designed to remove soap film, body oils, and hard water deposits. First, the tough surface is sanded and cleaned. Next, any chips or scratches are filled and repaired, and the surface is cleaned and caulked where the tub meets with the tile.

Primer

A primer coating is applied to the prepped surface to give a bond between the old and new surfaces. This durable primer coating cannot be removed by even industrial stripers, giving the maximum bond possible between your fixtures.

Application of New Surface

Technology seems to be changing everything these days, and coatings are no different. Typically either an acrylic or urethane based coating will be applied with an HVLP spray ring. These coatings, available in a variety of custom colors, will dry to the touch within minutes. New Surface has access to some of the most advanced, hi-tech coatings available on the market today. These coatings produce such a hard, glossy surface that many people have a hard time distinguishing between a new and refinished surface. Through different techniques and procedures, a refinished tub can be ready within 48 hours.

Finishing Touches

One aspect of refinishing which tends to set New Surface apart from out competitors is the attention we give to finishing the job. Once properly sanded, we apply 4 coats of our glass-fused eurothane coating for your final finish
